In most countries you need to show your ID (possibly have a credit card) in order to get a SIM card, even if it's only prepaid.  In Poland, you need 5 zloty ( abid mopre than €1) and you are done: Thanks to PLAY, I have know my own Polish phone number with them, starting with +48... Is there a logic behind these numbers? Spain has +34, Germany +49, USA/Canada +1 as international prefix: Definitely not alphabetic...
PS. Cell phones here are also called "KOMÓRKA", the literal transalation of a (biological) "CELL"
